Forecast Last Updated at Monday, August 13, 2018 at 5:08PM

Drier & Pleasant Evening

Pack up your canoes and kayaks, you will not need them for the next couple of days. That is, if you don't have plans to go white water rafting. Anyways, the sun has plans to stick around for the first half of the week. However, an isolated or t-shower cannot be ruled out early this evening. Tuesday follows suite as one of the best days this week with ample sunshine, warm temperatures and a nice breeze. Wednesday continues this trend with slightly warmer temperatures and sunny skies remaining. Looking ahead to the second half of the week, showers and thundershowers make a return to the forecast.

It's Calendar time again! Through August 26, we are selling the 2019 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar at the pre-publication price of $12. Order yours now at RaysMarketplace.Com. We will begin shipping them August 27 and they will begin appearing in stores around the same date.

The calendar contains over 50 photos from the RaysWeather.com Blue Ridge Parkway Photo Contest. But it includes much more--climate data, a Blue Ridge Parkway map detailing popular waterfalls, and even November/December 2018 calendar pages so you can begin using it soon.

Forecast Discussion

High pressure has settled over the region helping to stabilize the atmosphere and prevent any widespread or organized showers/storms for the next few days. The first half of the week is rather calm. As we transition into the second half of the week, we see a low pressure center pass into the Great Lakes area. It continues to trek to the NE from the Ohio River valley. As it does so, a cold front swings around and brushes up against the Mid-Atlantic setting the stage for a return to afternoon and evening showers and thundershowers starting Thursday and persisting to Sunday.

This evening continues to wind down as we only have a stray shower or t-shower possible. Tomorrow and Wednesday are the best days this week for sunshine and calm weather. Thursday afternoon, we transition back into an unsettled weather pattern that continues straight on into the weekend. Fun fact: Due to the rain over the past several days and weeks, North Carolina is nearly drought free. In case you are wondering, Union county is the outlier keeping us from 100%.
