Pleasant Weekend Finish

We conclude the weekend on a very nice note, with mostly sunny skies and very warm temperatures for late August. Eclipse Monday looks quite good, but there will be some additional cloud build-ups during the afternoon that will lead to some isolated showers and thundershowers, especially closer to the Blue Ridge. That will be the biggest bugaboo to eclipse viewers: Exactly where do those cumulus clouds grow in relation to your viewing angle? That will be rather situational, of course, but something to keep in mind for tomorrow. Humid weather returns for Tuesday and Wednesday, along with increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms by midweek. Cooler, drier conditions await for late next week.

2018 Blue Ridge Parkway Calendars

But it includes much more--climate data, Parkway Information, and even November/December 2017 calendar pages so you can begin using it soon. Monday, we began shipping orders and the calendars begin appearing in stores across the region.

Forecast Discussion

If you liked Saturday’s weather, then you are going to enjoy Sunday. Expect mostly sunny skies and very warm temperatures as high pressure remains in control of our weather.

The cold front that came through here late Friday is parked across the interior Southeast and will nudge slowly northward as a warm front before dissipating on Monday. The return of a southerly flow will bring back more humid air next week, and we do expect isolated showers and thundershowers for Eclipse Day. Hit-or-miss PM thundershowers will be with us on Tuesday as well.

A rather strong cold front for this time of year will be approaching on Wednesday and moving through the mountains and Foothills Wednesday night. As a result, Wednesday will be our best coverage day for showers and thunderstorms.

Behind the front, we look for a noticeably cooler and drier Thursday through Saturday around WNC.
