Ramping-Up Showers/Thunderstorms

There will be a good deal of sunshine today, but with widely-separated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall chances only go up from here, with the next several days looking rather unsettled. We expect a daily rainfall focus during the typical PM-periods, however, thundershower risks won’t necessarily be limited to those times.

Forecast Discussion

After most places got a break from the rain since the weekend, the forecast theme over the next few days will be increasing coverage and frequency of showers and thunderstorms around western North Carolina.

Increasing moisture return from the Gulf of Mexico around the Bermuda High, along with a number of weak disturbances in the flow aloft will promote a more unsettled period heading into the weekend. It’s not going to rain all the time, but be prepared for interruptions to outside activities.

Down the road, a cold front is probably going to approach us early next week. It’s ability to make a forceful push to the coast looks dubious at best, so the unsettled conditions could be around for a while.

High temperatures will start out above normal, but gradually cool some under the influence of more clouds and showers heading into the weekend period.
