Forecast Last Updated at Friday, September 30, 2022 at 6:53PM

Hello Winston-Salem

It's all about Ian for the next 24 hours, but we will be spared the worst of the storm. Ian made it's second landfall this afternoon near Georgetown, SC. This evening Ian is just west of Myrtle Beach moving north to near Winston-Salem late tonight. Rain developed this afternoon and increased this evening. The heaviest rainfall will miss us to the east, however we still expect 1-3 inches, with the heaviest totals across the northern Foothills (closer to the VA border). Winds will be gusty out the north-northwest, with gusts to 40 mph possible tonight. Leftover showers will be around Sunday-Monday, but it won’t be much less than what we get over the next 16 hours.

Forecast Discussion

Ian is now classified as a "post-tropical cyclone". Friday evening, it is just west of Myrtle Beach having come inland via Georgetown, SC this afternoon. It is moving north and will be near Winston-Salem late tonight. It will continue a NNW track into Virginia Saturday.

Rain increased late Friday and will be heavy at times overnight. Winds will gust this evening to 40 mph but diminish late tonight.

A faster Ian forward motion means a faster improvement to our weather on Saturday. There will be plenty of leftover moisture and perhaps a few showers, but the day will be predominately dry. More of the same is expected on Sunday as a trailing trough of low pressure might spark a couple of showers.

Once we get past the weekend, it’s a tale of high pressure. Skies will turn mostly clear and temperatures will slowly begin to moderate after a rather unseasonably cool weekend.
