Forecast Discussion
Today will feel more like midsummer than late-May with sunshine and near-record high temperatures.
Rather hot weather continues on Saturday, but slowly increasing moisture and instability will give rise to scattered late-day showers and thunderstorms around the mountains and Foothills.
A cold front approaches on Sunday, moving slowly through North Carolina on Monday. Showers and thundershowers can be expected with this rather active frontal zone. Temperatures will start to cool back off, closer to normal.
What happens next remains somewhat up for debate. The front stalls to our south and east, probably returning northward as a warm front during midweek. Another cold front approaches by week’s end, but we do not have a good handle on speed or timing. For now, we’ll keep a lot of clouds and a few showers around for Tuesday and Wednesday, perhaps ramping back up again toward the end of next week.
